Learn to creatively avert difficulties and dangers before they hit

Knowing how to manage conflict, on both the personal and professional level, prepares you to avoid potentially negative outcomes before they can escalate to the point of no return. Become the manager who avoids damaging conflict by creatively resolving differences. One study found that 50% of Americans have left a job to “get away from their manager” at some point in their career. (Gallup 2015, “The State of the American Manager”)

The Leadership & Workplace Conflict Resolution Emphasis cultivates essential skills in the areas of:

  • Inner transformation,
  • Communication,
  • Leadership, and
  • Conflict resolution.

In addition these skills will enhance your ability to create a harmonious, effective workplace environment.

Leadership & Workplace Conflict Resolution Emphasis Credits

Out of the required 58 credits to complete the MBA, a minimum of 16 credits have to be taken in the respective Business Emphasis.

You can earn your MBA with a Leadership and Workplace Conflict Resolution Emphasis by completing 16 credits from the following:

Students may take the MBA degree jointly in combination with one of the shorter MS or MA programs (Business Technology & Analytics, or Leadership and Workplace Conflict Resolution.) The joint degree plan must be approved by the student’s faculty advisor at least one semester before finishing the requirements for one of the degrees. The College of Business allows up to 16 credits of the combined credit requirement of the two degrees to be met by courses common to the two programs.

Learning by doing

Practice your communication and mediation skills in a safe, supportive classroom environment, and appreciate the added depth of learning when you put your theoretical knowledge into practice. Participation in the live classroom sessions allows you to go through the four steps of the feedback loop:

  • MGT 5829 Culture and Conflict Resolution (2 credits)
    Understand personal differences in the context of cultural differences that have national, religious, and social origins. Learn how to embrace diversity to create a harmonious work group. Apply various cross-cultural models in real case scenarios.
  • MGT 5836 Difficult People and Difficult Conversations (2 credits)
    In this course students will develop and use their emotional intelligence to handle high conflict personality types and other difficult people. They will practice difficult conversations with peers, subordinates and supervisors. They will perfect the art of giving and receiving feedback.
  • MGT 5837 Transformational Coaching (2 credits)
    The focus of this course is learning to lead and coach for transformational change in the individual and the organization. Topics include: balancing of power, committed listening, overcoming impasse, transcending conflict, heartfelt conversation, forgiveness, and preventative conflict resolution.

Loan Repayment Options

Payments are a fixed amount that ensures your loans are paid off within 10 years (within 10 to 30 years for Consolidation Loans).
Payments may be fixed or graduated and will ensure that your loans are paid off within 25 years.
Payments are lower at first and then increase, usually every two years, and are for an amount that will ensure your loans are paid off within 10 years (within 10 to 30 years for Consolidation Loans).
Your monthly payments will be either 10 or 15 percent of discretionary income (depending on when you received your first loans), but never more than you would have paid under the 10-year Standard Repayment Plan.
Payments are recalculated each year and are based on your updated income, family size, and the total amount of your Direct Loans. Any outstanding balance will be forgiven if you haven’t repaid your loan in full after 25 years.
Your monthly payment is based on annual income, but your loan will be paid in full within 15 years.
