On May 16th, MIU students dressed to impress for the 2015 Graduation Ball.
The Grad Ball is an annual MIU event that celebrates the year’s graduating class. It is held in the Arts and Convention Center (the same space that hosts the EcoJam fashion show) and features music, dancing, food, a photobooth, and more. Amy and Troy Van Beek report that Ideal Energy Inc., a solar energy business they co-own in Fairfield, is currently working on both small- and large-scale projects that service communities in the Midwest and nationally. The work they have already accomplished has made Fairfield the city with the highest number of solar energy installations per capita in Iowa. Krista Brisbane comes from Dominica, a small island in the Caribbean that has been named the “nature island” due to its unspoiled rainforest, springs, and waterfalls. Growing up in a healthy environment, Krista became interested in natural health and self-development. I spoke with Varsha Khatri a few weeks ago when she came to Fairfield to visit her alma mater. She is a graduate of the BA degree in Physiology and Health in 2008, and about 3 years ago, she settled with her husband in London—where she was born. There, she began a health practice called Illuminated Health which has become quite successful. We got an on-the-road telephone update from Justin Cutter in late February 2015, as he was driving to southern California to start his next 6-week tour of schools. Justin teaches organic, sustainable farming to students of all ages right from his 25-foot box truck—his mobile greenhouse, where students feel, smell, taste, and water his plants. Justin teaches people how to use limited space to grow nutritious foods that require the least resources.
