Recently we had the opportunity to interview Susi Halley, a student in our online MA in Maharishi Vedic Science program. She tells us how MUM’s online courses helped her life-long dream came true and, most importantly, why she chose this online program:
PhD graduates Lee Fergusson and Anna Bonshek were recently awarded Cambodia’s highest civilian honor by royal decree of the King of Cambodia in the King’s 2016 honors list, based on the recommendation of the president of the National Assembly of Cambodia.
Professional baseball player Brock Bond learned the Transcendental Meditation technique to improve his game, but his curiosity about the technique soon brought him to MIU to study Maharishi Vedic Science.
Michael Sternfeld gave a free presentation titled “Ram’s Dharma: Leadership Secrets From the Ultimate Warrior-Sage-Prince” as part of MIU’s Distinguished Lecture Series.
MIU student Gladys Kimtai was born in Kenya and lost her parents at age two. She and her siblings were raised by her grandparents, who passed away when Gladys was 12. A fortuitous event, however, altered her life for the better. A prosperous local doctor decided to provide education to the youngest child in the family, young Gladys, so at age three she was enrolled in boarding school.
Pont Pont Htoo is from Myanmar, where she earned a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Computer Studies in Yangon. After graduating she taught computer science in a private computer school, then moved to Singapore where she earned a graduate diploma in system analysis from the Institute of System Science, National University of Singapore.
Dr. Evan Finkelstein is one of the legendary and beloved professors in the MVS department who recently retired from full-time teaching. Dr. Finkelstein’s PhD thesis was about the principles of MVS in relation to the scriptures of various major world religions. This continued to be the main focus of his academic research. Students know Dr. Finkelstein as an extremely knowledgeable and fun professor, whose classes were always joyful and full of laughter.
Dr. Johan Svenson is an experienced Physics teacher. He taught physics in Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment for 5 years and was an adjunct faculty at MIU before he became a full-time faculty 6 years ago. He was my Physics teacher in the MVS Master’s program. Physics was never my strong area, nor was I interested in the subject. However, Johan’s “sweet and simple” style of teaching made me a fan of the subject!
Dr. Fred Travis is working on an exciting new project! He and his research team are investigating effects of listening to Vedic chanting on EEG patterns. Their preliminary findings are that, compared to brain patterns during TM practice, listening to Vedic recitation leads to higher coherence in the Alpha1 frequency, the frequency seen during transcending, and in the Theta frequency, the frequency of inner mental processing.
