In Fall 2014, the new batch of doctoral students embarked upon their research journey. In the first year of the program, they dive deep into MVS knowledge under the guidance of the professors. In the second year, individual research begins. We’d like to present the PhD in Vedic Science program through introducing the students and their impressions of the program.
Vivek Iyyer comes from Tamil Nadu, India, and is a native Tamil speaker. He is a sweet and knowledgeable person who constantly impressed his PhD classmates with his...

What brought you to MIU?
I came to Maharishi International University because of the amazing community. I wanted to study amongst people who were actively developing themselves from the inside out. I knew that if I wanted to uncover more of my potential, I needed to be in an environment where others were striving to do the same.
What was your experience getting your degree from MIU?
Stress free, fun, and transformative. MIU completely defies the saying “no pain, no gain.” I have learned so...

Where are you from and what brought you here to the DLMA?
I’m from Minneapolis in Minnesota, only six hours north of Fairfeld, Iowa. I have family who live in various parts of Iowa, but none of them had ever heard of Fairfield. I heard about the DLMA program through a friend who stumbled upon the blog for the scholarship contest, and the cosmos took care of the rest. I completed my BA from Sarah Lawrence College in 1999, it had been a while since I was last enrolled in school, but now...

Where are you from and what brought you here to the David Lynch MA?
I am from a very politicized region on the border of Mexico in the US, El Paso, Texas. I was attracted here by some the energy and desire to create great art, and this place allows me that freedom. I’m glad to be in Fairfield, Iowa.
How are you liking the MA program?

Where are you from and what brought you here to the David Lynch MA?
In November 2009, I journeyed from St. Louis, MO to Fairfield, IA to attend MIU’s annual David Lynch Visitors Weekend. On the first night of the event, my family and I wound up sitting in the front row next to David Lynch and Donovan (shown left). I was 18 years old at the time and was a huge fan of David Lynch, so getting to meet him was a thrill. At the time,...

Where are you from and what brought you here to the David Lynch MA?
I’m from Washington, DC and my love of David Lynch and photography brought me to the David Lynch MFA in film. I love film. I love images. I adore storytelling. I like the MA program and the practice of TM meditation. I went to the famous arts high school: Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, DC where I received professional arts training and various internships that help shape my drive. Then I got my Bachelors of Arts in Photography from Columbia College...

How are you liking the MA program?
I am loving the DLMA program. First and foremost I came to grow on a personal level, through meditation, through consciousness and through my creativity. That’s been the best aspect of this program because I’ve transformed into more of me and more of who I’m meant to be. Being in a program where David Lynch is the mentor is a dream come true because he’s influenced me so much personally and professionally. David Lynch introduced me to Transcendental Meditation and I...

Where are you from and what brought you here to the David Lynch MA in film program?
I’m a Brazilian filmmaker and I came here because I was looking for a desert island in order to create. A place where I could be 100% connected to myself while developing my film project. Here, I would be far from my land and I’d would use David Lynch’s techniques to dive into deep waters in ourselves to search for what I was going to write about. I won an award from my...
