The newly published poetry anthology River of Earth and Sky: Poems for the Twenty First Century by Diane Frank features several writers from the MIU community and is now available for purchase on Amazon.com.
Graphic and fashion designer Jami Johnson works as part of “a tight knit team” for Blue Fish Clothing in Fairfield, Iowa. “I never thought I’d be moved back to a small town in Midwest and working at a clothing line doing fashion design,” she tells me.
Ananda Kesler’s grandmother was a respected Israeli artist. Ananda’s early childhood visits to her grandmother’s studio, “a mysterious, magical place,” fostered her fascination with painting. After her family moved to Fairfield, Ananda began to transcend cultural boundaries – traveling the world to study art, printmaking, textile/surface design, painting and drawing in Italy, Iowa, California and Thailand. In contrast, or perhaps deeply informed by her travels, Ananda’s work explores and reflects her rich inner world.
The first annual Creative Edge Film Fest (CEFF) took place in Fairfield September 25-27 at the freshly renovated Orpheum Theater downtown. The festival provided a new venue for Iowa’s independent filmmakers, producers, directors, and actors to showcase their talents.

There’s a bright blue glow reflecting off the top of Everybody’s Whole Foods Store in Fairfield, Iowa. That luminescence can be attributed to the recent expansion of solar power arrays installed by Ideal Energy. Once completed, Everybody’s will have a 44.88 kW of solar power that they will generate independently. Collectively, the arrays of solar panels will produce 57,802 kWh on an annual basis.
