Owen Blake grew up in Fairfield and attended Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment for grades 8-12. Although several universities offered him basketball scholarships, he decided to enroll at MIU and continue with Consciousness-Based education. He graduated with a BA in Media and Communications in 2012 and then stayed at MIU to work in Admissions for a year.
Pont Pont Htoo is from Myanmar, where she earned a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Computer Studies in Yangon. After graduating she taught computer science in a private computer school, then moved to Singapore where she earned a graduate diploma in system analysis from the Institute of System Science, National University of Singapore.
Daniel Harvey grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, among the farms of America’s heartland and worked on several large scale and industrial family farms. After high school, he spent eight years playing drums, touring and recording with various underground punk rock bands. He has always been interested in an ecological, earth-friendly approach to agriculture, so when he heard about MIU’s Sustainable Living program he applied.
Avishek Ahmed began creating mobile applications 10 years ago, even before smartphones appeared on the market, and one of his first apps has been downloaded by seven million people.
Leigh Lester-Holmes holds a master’s degree in business management with a specialization in public administration. She had worked in the nonprofit sector for ten years when she decided to apply for a doctoral degree. However, she didn’t want to commit to a university until she could find something that would help her focus on her studies.
Robert Abreu grew up in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Birmingham, Alabama, in a culturally and linguistically diverse family. From an early age he has been passionate about learning languages, which helped him bridge cultures in his family and gain insight into others. French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Afrikaans, Arabic, and Swahili are some of the languages he learned.
Erin Liu had worked at two of the top international accounting firms, first Deloitte and then PricewaterhouseCoopers. After six years, she decided to take a break and apply to MIU to pursue a graduate degree.
MIU Press recently published the second volume of Conversations with Maharishi by Dr. Vernon Katz. The books are based on conversations Dr. Katz had with Maharishi while they were translating the Brahma Sutras in the late 1960s and early 70s. Dr. Katz’s questions inspired deep insights from Maharishi on the nature and development of higher states of consciousness.
