Dil Siwakoti was working as assistant manager in a small restaurant in Albany, New York, when a new customer came in. His name was Tom Bojarksi, a teacher of the Transcendental Meditation technique, who told Dil about his work and travels in India and Nepal. Dil, who grew up in Nepal, immediately took to Tom and soon learned the TM technique from him.

MIU student Gladys Kimtai was born in Kenya and lost her parents at age two. She and her siblings were raised by her grandparents, who passed away when Gladys was 12. A fortuitous event, however, altered her life for the better. A prosperous local doctor decided to provide education to the youngest child in the family, young Gladys, so at age three she was enrolled in boarding school.
