If you have an undergraduate degree with a major in business, you may receive waiver credit for any of the seven foundation areas in which you received a grade of B or higher: Marketing, Accounting, Financial Management, Business Law and Ethics, Operations Management, Human Resource Management, and Management Information Systems. Maximum of 18 credits may be waived.

Dr Ayako Huang

Ayako Huang graduated with a Ph.D. in Management degree in May 2012 from Maharishi University of Management. She earned her B.A. in Business Administration and a Graduate Diploma in Public Administration from Eastern Washington University.

Her work focuses on both private and governmental organizations that are seeking to improve their sustainability. Professor Huang has been participating in and presenting her sustainable management curriculum in the Sustainable Mindset Group offered by the Principles of Responsible Management Education platform, a United Nations-supported initiative that aims to raise the profile of sustainability in schools around the world. She contributed a chapter to a new textbook, Revolutionizing Sustainability Education: Stories and Tools for Mindset Transformation by Routledge Press, published Jan. 2022.

She received the Sustainability Mindset Principles Atelier, Certificate of Completion by LEAP – PRME. In addition, she is a certified Shared Leadership Team coach. Currently, she serves as both the chair of the Management department and the program director of the Sustainable MBA programs.

Montreka Dansby

MontrekaDansby

MBA student Montreka Dansby has a background in food and nutritional sciences and biomedical sciences. She received her PhD from North Carolina State University and her research focused on the biological and anti-cancer properties of dietary phytochemicals.

She completed the Fellowships in Research and Science Teaching (FIRST) postdoctoral program in the Department of Physiology at Emory University School of Medicine and in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.

Montreka learned about the Transcendental Meditation® program and Fairfield from watching an Oprah special in 2012. She was so impressed by what she saw that she wanted to visit. After signing up for a women’s conference at The Raj Maharishi Ayurveda Health Spa, she spent a week learning the TM® technique, touring campus, and meeting people. She had such a wonderful experience she considered attending MIU but, due to work obligations, she could not. In 2017, however, she learned about the online MBA program and applied.

Montreka is currently program manager for surgical education at Morehouse School of Medicine, providing support for surgery residents and medical students as well as compliance and accreditation. Montreka’s job involves administration, education, and communication, and she is striving to exemplify good leadership.

“The information I have learned in my MBA classes has helped me significantly in decision-making and preventing and solving conflicts,” said Montreka. “I like to focus on respect, forgiveness, humility, and love. I grew up with those values and MIU has added structure to that foundation.”

When Chad Hays enrolled in MIU’s online Sustainable MBA program in August 2020, he already had three graduate degrees. He obtained his MD and master’s in public health degrees simultaneously at the University of Illinois while taking a two-year break to also get a law degree at the same school.

After he graduates, he plans to combine the knowledge he gains at MIU with his existing skillset and experience to create a new venture. He envisions introducing sustainability into his practice, consulting locally and globally, and supporting communities by promoting the practice of the TM program.

In 2018, Meagen and her family were living in Boise, Idaho and came across a Transcendental Meditation introductory talk, which was led by bestselling author Jack Forem and Idaho TM teacher Taoline Oaas. Moving to Michigan in 2019, Meagen and Taoline still enjoy monthly checking sessions and discussing the benefits and process of TM. Meagen's professional portfolio includes commercial roles for The Boston Beer Company and the revered New Zealand based hop co-operative, NZ Hops Ltd.

Always seeking growth, in 2020 she committed to an alcohol-free lifestyle and founded (af)icionados, a company focused on non-alcoholic beer and beverage education. "Joining NZ Hops and continuing to further my education at MIU were manifestations of my highest aspirations in 2020, and during a very tumultuous year filled with uncertainty, my TM practice supported me and things are now unfolding in the most amazing way, filling me with gratitude and excitement for the path ahead", says Meagen. Weekly class schedule

Online part-time Class Schedule

  • Tuesdays: 7:30-9:00 PM US CST
  • Thursdays: 7:30-9:00 PM US CST
  • Saturdays: 10:00-12:30 PM US CST

The class sessions are video-conferenced live via the Internet and are recorded for students whose time zone or work schedule does not permit synchronous participation.

Readings and homework account for another 7-10 hours of academic work per week.
Students earn 2 credits per month with this online part-time schedule.

On-campus full-time Class Schedule

  • Monday through Friday 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 3:15 PM US CST
  • Saturdays: 10:00-12:30 PM US CST

Students earn 4 credits per month with this full-time schedule.

Courses & degree requirements

Students in the day, online, and evening/weekend MBA formats need to fulfill the degree requirement of 58 credits of study consisting of 18 credits of the MBA Foundation Requirement and 40 credits covering one specialization area as well as university requirements and elective courses.

Courses

MBA Foundation Requirement (18 credits)

In preparation for meeting the requirement of a track or several concentrations, each MBA student must demonstrate basic competence in the foundational fields of business. This is demonstrated by having a total of 18 MBA course credits earned, including at least 2 semester-hour credits in any four of the following seven fields:

  • Marketing
  • Accounting
  • Finance
  • Business Law
  • Management: organizational behavior, human resource management, leadership
  • Operations or quality management
  • Management information systems

Students may fulfill the MBA Foundation Requirement in whole or in part by having completed equivalent undergraduate coursework at an accredited university and earned a grade of at least B. This means that up to 18 credits of foundational studies can be waived based on prior studies.

Students who have taken graduate coursework in business administration at another university and have not used those credits for a degree may apply to have those credits transferred to Maharishi International University and used as specialization or elective credits, up to a maximum of 20 credits toward the MBA.

MBA Depth Requirement: Specialization Areas of Advanced Study (16 credits)

In addition to foundational courses, all MBA students must complete one specialization area of advanced study. A specialization is a depth of study in one discipline or cross-functional field consisting of at least 16 credits. Each specialization includes a seminar or capstone course in which there is a substantial requirement of research and writing, designated below by an asterisk (*). A specialization is noted on the student’s transcript but not on the diploma. Courses in five specialization areas are shown on the respective site.

University Requirement (4 or more credits)

To graduate with an MBA, students must successfully complete all general requirements for a master’s degree, including the introductory course FOR 500 Science of Creative Intelligence (4 credits) at Maharishi International University or its equivalent STC 508 Exploring Consciousness, and one Forest Academy course in each subsequent semester a student is enrolled for 12 credits or more.

Electives

Any MGT course at the 5000-level may count as an elective course. With the permission of the department chair, a maximum of 8 elective credits may be taken as graduate courses in other departments of the university or as undergraduate courses designated 300-level or above in other departments of the University. MBA students who take undergraduate courses may be required to do extra work commensurate with graduate-level credit.

Additional requirements

English language verification

International applicants must submit official English proficiency test scores within the past 2 years from one of the following: at least 110 on Duolingo, 6.5 on IELTS Academic, 58 on PTE, 90-91 [0-120 score] or 4.5 [1-6 score] on TOEFL iBT.

Applicants are exempt from this requirement if they have resided in the following countries for a minimum of 2 years: American Samoa, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada (except Quebec), Dominica, Grenada, Grand Cayman, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Liberia, New Zealand, Trinidad/Tobago, United Kingdom, and US Pacific Trust.

Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique

All MIU students practice the Transcendental Meditation® technique. If you have not learned it yet:

  • Once accepted as a US student, the cost of TM instruction is covered through a grant offered by MIU
  • Students are required to learn the TM technique within the first 6 weeks after enrollment.
