Last weekend (October 23rd and 24th) Maharishi International University (MIU) hosted our annual Peacemaker’s Intercollegiate Mock Mediation Tournament.  This is the 6th year we have hosted a competition. Ten teams competed in three rounds after a training session on Friday afternoon.  Schools competing were University of Dubuque, Lewis University from Illinois and Principia College from Illinois.

MIU’s Lauren Webster tied for first place in the Individual Mediator category with Elle Lannon from University of Dubuque. Lauren Webster and Nashon Yisrael tied for first place in the Client/Advocate category. Tal Ron came in second in the same category.  The MIU team of Lauren, Nashon and Tal won the team award for Client/Advocate and won the Tournament championship cup.  One of the three teams from the University of Dubuque won the silver Client/Advocate cup.  Another University of Dubuque team won the gold cup for mediator in the team category and Lewis University won the silver cup in that category.

Also competing for MIU were Janet McDonald, Himanshu Ramsamooj, Jim Marazita, and Shawn Daudi.  Coach and Tournament organizer, Vicki Alexander Herriott said, “The tournament went very smoothly. I am very proud of all the MIU participants.  They did a great job of integrating what they had learned in their Mediation and Negotiation class.  They were a calming influence as mediators and creative problem solvers as Advocates and Clients.”
