The World Association for Vedic Studies (WAVES International), in collaboration with the Wider Association for Vedic Studies (WAVES India) and Maharishi International University, proudly announces WAVES 2026 — the 17th International Conference on Vedic Studies. The conference will take place from July 31 to August 2, 2026, here at Maharishi International University in Fairfield, Iowa, USA.

Centered on the theme “Living Wisdom: Reintegrating Ayurveda and Vedic Sciences in the Modern World,” WAVES 2026 invites scholars, practitioners, researchers, educators, healers, and seekers from around the world to explore the timeless relevance of Vedic knowledge in addressing today’s global challenges. In an era marked by ecological disruption, stress, fragmentation, and health crises, the conference seeks to foster meaningful dialogue on consciousness, holistic well-being, sustainability, integrative medicine, ethics, education, and the future of human flourishing.

For nearly three decades, WAVES conferences have served as a vibrant interdisciplinary platform for the exchange of ideas rooted in the Vedas, Ayurveda, Yoga, Sanskrit traditions, Indic philosophies, and allied sciences. WAVES 2026 continues this legacy by encouraging innovative scholarship and cross-disciplinary collaboration that bridges ancient wisdom with contemporary research and practice.

The conference will feature keynote presentations, research paper sessions, workshops, cultural programs, and special experiential offerings, including a pre-conference Panchakarma workshop at The Raj in Fairfield, Iowa. More details about the WAVES 2026 conference >

Dr. John Hagelin

John Hagelin

John Hagelin is a world-renowned quantum physicist, educator, and leading proponent of peace. He served as the President of Maharishi International University (MIU) in Fairfield, Iowa and President of the David Lynch Foundation. He is also a three-time U.S. Presidential candidate for the Natural Law Party. He holds a Ph.D. in physics from Harvard University. He has conducted pioneering particle physics research at CERN (the European Center for Particle Physics) and the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). He is noted for his work developing a successful grand unified field theory based on superstring theory. For over two decades, he has extensively researched the relationship between quantum physics and human consciousness. He is a leading expert on how Transcendental Meditation (TM) accelerates brain development, lowers stress, and reduces societal violence. He is the President of the Global Union of Scientists for Peace (GUSP).

Rajiv Malhotra

Mr. Rajiv Malhotra

Rajiv Malhotra

Rajiv Malhotra is an Indian-American researcher, author, public intellectual, and founder of the*Infinity Foundation. He is best known for his work as a civilizational philosopher and framework-builder who analyzes the encounter between Indian (Dharmic) thought systems and Western paradigms, particularly in history, social sciences, mind sciences, technology, and consciousness.

Trained as a physicist at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, Malhotra pursued postgraduate studies in physics and then computer science, specializing in Artificial Intelligence in the 1970s. He built a highly successful corporate and entrepreneurial career in the information technology and media industries, rising to senior executive roles in Fortune 100 companies and eventually owning and managing over 20 IT companies across more than 20 countries.

At the peak of his career (age 44), he took early retirement in the early 1990s to dedicate himself full-time to research and philanthropy, exiting all for-profit activities.

Malhotra is a prolific creator of intellectual frameworks for understanding and defending Indic/Dharmic civilization. His approach is multidisciplinary, blending rigorous analysis with a commitment to “reversing the gaze” (examining the West from an Indian perspective rather than the other way around). In his published works of over 14 books, Malhotra engages in Purva Paksha (critical examination of opposing viewpoints) and the development of original Sanskrit-derived categories for contemporary discourse. He analyses civilizational differences between Dharmic traditions (which emphasize embodied knowing, integral unity, and contextuality) and Abrahamic/Western traditions (often characterized by synthetic unity and historical linearity).

Malhotra’s early specialization in AI gives him a unique vantage point in current debates. He has written extensively on the civilizational implications of emerging technologies.
His book, Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Power, examines AI’s geopolitical, economic, and cultural impacts while providing insights into consciousness itself in the context of AI. The Battle for Consciousness Theory critiques Western appropriations of Indian thought (notably Sri Aurobindo’s integral philosophy) in modern consciousness studies and argues for preserving the integrity of Indic contributions in the age of AI.

Through Infinity Foundation, he has done pioneering work in ‘mind sciences’, including grants and conferences linking Indian psychology, yoga, meditation, and non-dual philosophies with Western cognitive science. This includes support for programs at Harvard (Indic studies), University of Arizona (Center for Consciousness Studies), and others. He has collaborated with figures like Harvard’s Dr. Herbert Benson on the future of mind-body medicine and Indian contributions to consciousness research.

Infinity Foundation has awarded over 400 grants, supported major academic programs, published a 14-volume *History of Indian Science & Technology* series, and organized numerous international conferences. He seeks to equip Indian civilization with robust intellectual tools to engage modernity on equal terms without imitation or isolation.
