Canada, Here We Come!
Sustainable survival with a spiritual twist. How do we look at a new environment and assess its inherent qualities? How can we learn to live life in harmony with the laws of nature and gain a sense of unity with our surroundings?
Dr. Sam James and Dr. Jesse Dann will lead an expedition to the North Channel Islands located in Lake Huron beginning on September 4th for 6 weeks. Their collective expertise in ecology, soil science and geology combined with a flair for discovery guarantee an exciting adventure.
The expedition will explore the patterns of occurrence of the life forms across the land and connect them to underlying features such as terrain, bedrock, soils, water, and natural flows over the landscape. These patterns will be connected to sustainability by examining the relationships of local human cultures, past and present, to the land, vegetation, and natural resources.
You’ll have a chance to investigate the challenges of sustainability within a small, manageable region and be exposed to the challenges of forest orienteering, coastal navigation (sailing, paddling, boating) and group living.
At the deepest level, you’ll learn how the Earth continuously awakens to its potentiality through processes of self-referral, through connection to inner wholeness — differentiating, self-organizing, and evolving a multitude of living systems, including human life with its own unbounded potential.
We are accepting applications until July 15th for U.S. Citizens and June 30th for foreign students due to Visa requirements. Class limit is 10. For more information, please call Professor Sam James at 641-472-3300.
